I would hazard a guess that is why the NL to SG2 referee promotions haven't been announced, one or more have been demoted and are appealing it.  Can't see any other reason why one particular level would be held back from being announced.

But demotions will never be published, you will only find out once the next season's lists are announced.  Same as any work situation, comms go out when people are promoted but you will never see a work email or Yammer post saying that Joe Bloggs has unfortunately been demoted due to his poor work performance.

If there is demotions on the SG2 group which I’m all for if people are not performing from games you seen who would you not be surprised to see sent to L1/L2?

I wouldn’t be surprised if any of Ward, Simpson, Langford and Martin were demoted. Possibly, Andy Woolmer due to his age, if they are looking to make the group a bit younger.

In previous seasons, I have noticed assistants Darren Blunden, Geoff Russell and Mark Jones all moved from Select Group 2 to the National List. Maybe that was to blood in some younger assistants. Perhaps- they are now looking to do the same with the referees.

Smallwood went from SG1 to NL in one season….

Is it possible some people haven't completed the promotion assessment yet? We discussed on another thread a referee getting Covid around the time of their fitness test. I guess a delay like that could prevent the process being fully completed - although of course it's possible there might be a limit on how long they're prepared to wait.

Bobby Madden has ended his FIFA/UEFA career

An excellent referee but wasn’t going to be elite, chance for Nick Walsh to progress

Not seen much of Nick Walsh but he was excellent in Hungary last season. Barely noticed him. He looks a great prospect though.

As a follower of Rangers I think Madden is the best in Scotland by some distance. I would also put Beaton and Walsh ahead of Collum from what I've seen in the SPL despite Collum being classed in the elite category by UEFA.

In my opinion Nick Walsh is by far the best we have in Scotland as things currently stand. Feel his foul detection and game management is top class. If we are to get another Elite FIFA ref to replace Willie it will be Nick Walsh I reckon

Bobby Madden, who some of you may know from his work as a referee in the SPL, has recently relocated to England due to his work commitments. As he transfers from the Scottish FA, he will join the National Group of referees for the 2022/23 season.

Good luck to Bobby. New job demands and new leagues. BBC reports Division 1 & 2. They also say that he has recovered from Thyroid cancer suffered a few years ago which I did not know, so double good luck this forthcoming season. There is more to life than football and referee decisions.
