Championship "dross"
« on: Fri 13 Dec 2019 18:01 »
Been away with work, only just caught up with the midweek games.

Wigan v WBA - Andy Davies has missed 2 penalties as well as a denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
The penalties were one for handball against Albion and high boot in 2nd half against Athletic.
Very poor decision making

Then Steve Martin gave a very soft penalty against Sheff Wed when the Derby player had hold of him. The yellow card awarded then came back to haunt the player when he committed a daft 2nd offence

Steve Martin is a shocking referee.  He is everything a referee shouldn't be. I look for calmness, composure and a cool head, but he hops, skips and jumps around like a kangaroo who's just munched a box of Haribo.  Nearly all his 'dubious' decisions go in favour of the home team it seems, I'd say he is very easily influenced by a vociferous crowd.  Personally I can't see how he gets away with it every week, what are these assessors looking at?
Him, along with Jeremy Simpson and Keith Stroud are robbing a living.  There's a few others who aren't much better, but those three are way out ahead.
On the plus side there's some good uns around.  I know Peter Bankes has been promoted, but he was always very impressive, along with Darren Bond and Tim Robinson who is nearly always decent.  Jarred Gillet was very good when I saw him officiate at Brum v Fulham as well.
But on the whole it's all a bit muuuuuurgh at the mo

I'm sure you're right. There seems to have been very little fanfare about Rob Jones in recent times which I think is a good thing. He had a short spell out of action last season and I suspect this might have had some bearing on his apparent lack of progress. I am sure this will be rectified before long and we shall be seeing Rob on the PL which is where he should be.
