Jarred Gillett - Forest v Fulham
« on: Sat 17 Sep 2022 13:06 »
I might be somewhat rose-tinted but thought Gillett had a solid game. Consistent decision making and tried to ignore minor infringements to allow the game to flow, which made for an exciting encounter. Whilst this approach meant a few decisions were missed (i.e. Ream's body-check on a Forest player), the only real talking point for me was the decision to award Cook a yellow card for a potential DOGSO on Willian in the first half. For me, both a YC and a RC would've been correct decisions. it was that close to call and I wonder what everyone else thinks? Cook seems to be a lucky chap following yet another potential RC against Spurs only a yellow.

Sounded a very exciting and entertaining encounter and also sounded like Gillett had a decent match too. I do prefer him to be on field making decisions than being a VAR, he is a much better referee on the park in control of games in his very quiet way.

The Cook incident I haven’t seen but again, it seems like the original call that has been made was stuck with, and that is fine by me. It sounds like a subjective call that some would have red carded, and some yellow. In that instance, the benefit of any doubt call is to go with a yellow card.

Another notable point is that Gillett’s four games on field this season have all been in the Premier League, hence the confidence in him from on high. Just don’t make him a regular VAR!

Only saw the half hour highlights so can’t comment on the general proceedings, however listening on Talksport and watching said highlights, Gillett was probably right to go yellow as there was a covering defender.

It also sounded a lively game where cards were necessary to control things.

Very happy with our start to the season, I can hear an European competition anthem in the distance! 😜

Watched the game and was fairly impressed by Gillett. It wasn’t the easiest game to referee. All YC seemed correct. Very happy with the YC in the possible red for DOGSO as there was cover and running slightly away from goal. Maybe he missed a yellow card here or there possible one for mitrovic for reckless tackle. Well done Jarred, he certainly seems to be doing better as a ref than as a VAR
