Sat 20th May 2023
AFC Bournemouth (First Team) v Manchester United FC (First Team)
Premier League
Referee: Kavanagh, Christopher
Assistant Referee: Perry, Marc
Assistant Referee: Meredith, Steven
Fourth Official: Whitestone, Dean
Video Assistant Referee: Pawson, Craig
Additional Video Assistant Referee: Aspinall, Natalie

Completely missed the fact that there were no penalty spots marked on the pitch!   Not that we actually need them - zero penalties all season!

Wore blue. No complaints.

Dean Whitestone is very handsome. Just saying!

If I read the stats correctly, Bournemouth had 10 attempts and United 20.  And only 1 YC in the game, none for United which is rare.  Sounds quite entertaining from that.
Did Kav have a quiet afternoon then?

I'm not sure that Bournemouth had 10 shots on goal - seriously? Must have missed them! The fact they walked out onto the pitch wearing swimming trunks and flip flops says all you need to know about my boys mentality! I think the yellow card may have been after someone tripped over one of the deckchairs that had appeared on the pitch!

It was an easy game for team ref. AFCB were topping up their tans and Man Utd getting the win without needing to move out of 2nd gear. When I say easy, no game at this level is easy but all 22 players behaved themselves, 11 were on holiday already, the other 11 knocked the ball about between themselves and had a few shots at Neto's sun lounger. No silly behaviour, nothing to trouble team ref who were able to go about their business quietly in the background and let the players get on with it. They'll not have an easier game in terms of control or conduct. No contentious decisions. Next to no back chat and just a pleasant game in the beautiful sunshine we had.

Highlight of the game was the fact our groundsman had not painted the penalty spots onto the pitch. We were all hoping for a penalty shout just to see what would happen about the no spots!

What would happen in a PL game if there was a penalty and the penalty spot hadnt been painted on?

Would the referee just mark it out and use vanishing spray like with a free kick?

I recall an incident on MOTD many years ago (can't recall the teams - possibly Derby County's Baseball Ground?) where the penalty marks had been lost in the mud. On came the Groundsman with a tape measure, a brush and a pot of white paint.

We assumed someone would have noticed in the first half & the groundsman would sneak on and add them during half time but nope! I suspect if there had been a penalty then the groundsman would have been summoned whilst team ref stood around a bit red faced during the delay!

Is that something the ref would get marked down for, as should have noticed pre match?

I was at the JH Yates game.It was/had been very wet and it wasn't clear exactly where the penalty spot was.At the start,it had been marked.
The match had been wonderfully entertaining and the paint pot incident was the icingon the cake.In those days,Man C.games were rarely dull.

I have no idea.  We all thought it highly amusing so I hope not!

If anyone were to get marked down it might be the ARs whose goal net checking might also surely comprise the correct markings down near the goals.
