Great scenes there!
Platnaur ex Bristol Rovers I think
Yes, you are right. I was there!  Bobby Gould had to build a complete new side after a player exodus after the sacking of Dave Sexton.  He picked up many bargain basement players, including Nicky Platnauer and Graham Withey from his old club, Bristol Rovers.  Some players succeeded, some didn't, but the core of the 1987 FA Cup winning team were signed by Gould.  Platnauer was of limited ability but always gave everything and was voted Player of the Year.

Now you are giving me memories....I used to watch Withey play for Bath City!

In isolation I do not agree with the caution, but if the referee has considered it Unsporting Behaviour (Not respecting the game) it is hard to argue.

There is also the consideration that the scorer had been spoken to previously and this was for persistent infringements.

I'm also in the camp that believes the defender was more worthy of a caution for his reaction.

I disagree but accept that either could be argued.  The problem in either case is that the offence occurred before the goal was scored and the ball became dead in which case the goal would (should) have been disallowed and the game restarted with an indirect free kick to the defending team.
