Andy Madley is no surprise and Peter Bankes had some big appointments during the second half of the season which suggested that he had overtaken Rob Jones.  Although he hasn't taken charge of a PL match prior to his promotion.

Dean Whitestone's promotion seemed to be a long time coming unless his circumstances away from the game have changed.

Congratulations to all promoted.

As usual, however, the PGMOL has failed to ensure future succession, having delayed the promotion of Mr Madley until he is 35 and Mr Bankes will be 37 by the start of next season.

Further down the list there are some particularly pleasing promotions and one or two whose excellence initially escaped me, but who have improved with experience - or perhaps I was simply not sufficiently knowledgeable to spot early promise.

Let's hope that the best of them are not kept kicking their heels for too long waiting to inherit dead men's shoes.

Congratulations to all - thoroughly deserved after great seasons!

Further promotion news on twitter from Trevor Massey suggests that Matt Donahue has been promoted to SG2 after his first season on the FL list!

I find the Matt Donohue situation rather intriguing as almost all of his appointments last season were fairly run-of-the-mill fixtures.

I'm not suggesting it isn't merited, more that it's a surprise.

Delighted for Whitestone, Madley and Bankes - all well deserved promotions.

There was one name I expected to see on the promotion to SG2 who isn't there - I rather suspect recent performances put paid to that promotion.

Good to see two Rochdale officials on that list.

The promotion for Andy Madley is well-deserved and overdue - I think it should have happened at least two years ago.

Peter Bankes seems to have been well-regarded for a few years now (although seemingly wasn't one of the main candidates for promotion 12 months ago) and I was impressed with his calm, composed handling of the L1 play-off semi-final he was appointed to. I think I'd rather Bankes be promoted than Tim Robinson, who was reportedly one of the candidates last year and does seem to have improved the season just gone in fairness.

I'm disappointed not to see Rob Jones promoted this summer - he was excellent every time I saw him last season and as mentioned it's important that referees are brought through and developed so as to give them the maximum opportunity to reach their potential.

I thought they might have promoted more than 1 assistant to SG1 considering two retired at the end of last season and with VAR being introduced too.

I think Dean Whitestone is certainly good enough to be on SG2 so good to see him promoted. There were a few others who I thought might get promoted to SG2 but haven't.

It will be interesting to see when we find out the 5 Championship referees to be used as VARs, I presume alongside their Championship refereeing commitments. I don't think there's any realistic way that we can predict these in advance.

I take it they are Messrs Wild and Brown. Personally I would have loved to have seen a third.

My interpretation of "Rochdale" is no doubt less precise than yours!

All we need now is the list of 3-2B promotions. Could someone please oblige?

Thank goodness Ross Joyce has stayed where he is. Couldn’t believe what I had to endure watching him during the FA Vase final.

Although astonishingly, Akil Howson hasn’t been promoted to SG1 AR. So pleasing as a colleague to watch his performances.

Has Mr Whitestone decided on a career with refereeing, rather than continuing his job with the police? The latter was usually the explanation for him not going onto the SG2 list earlier. On the two games I saw him last season, while he was one of the better NG officials, perhaps fell below the high standard I'd expected from previous games when he was in the middle.
