There was a very clear push at the far post.  Push an opponent in the back and you risk giving away a free kick, don't push him and the goal would have stood.

Congratulations to all four.  However, I would expect, none of them to get an appointment until the end of September, beginning of October and between them all to get around 30 games.  When you look at the likes of Hooper, Jones, England and Scott it does seem that we have too many SG referees when the likes of Oliver, Taylor, Dean , Atkinson, Pawson, Marriner and Moss get appointments pretty much every week.

As posted earlier whilst it is fantastic to see the first female referee promoted to the EFL, I do wonder how those referees who were not promoted would be feeling given that one of those promoted apparently (and I say apparently) finished nowhere near the top 6 and had no play off involvement. I am all for equality but this must be frustrating for the officials on the league

If it's even true. The only people who know are the league and her where she actually finished in the merit table. No one admits to being bottom, everyone claims to be just 1 place out of the promotion places.

there really wasn't , and it's not defendable when numerous foul challenges went unpunished throughout, if he had come out and appologised I'd have had much respect but that was a perfectly legal goal incorrectly disallowed.

We'll have to agree to disagree.  Even the pundits at half time when they were showed the referee's angle said they could understand why it had been disallowed.

Why blame the referee?  Why not blame the Torquay player who completely unnecessarily and stupidly shoved an opponent in the back?

It is clear that any promotion decisions were already made, so Mr Mather's performance was irrelevant to his promotion.

I wish all the promotees success come August, it is a steep learning curve.

I did post earlier that Madley had picked up an injury in the fitness test and therefore was not promoted as a result. This seems harsh but I guess if passing the fitness test is part of the process then it’s very unlucky but it’s the rules.

The positive was seeing Madley return and clearly deliver this season, maybe showing those in this group who have claimed he was somehow anointed to his former position that he indeed was a class above the referees lower down the pyramid, as you would expect from a former FIFA referee. I would fully expect to see Madley in the same position this time next season along with Edwards, Backhouse, Hicks, Barratt and Breakspear

Thanks. I have found an article that suggests Harrington is 43 but this May of course be wrong.

I’d be surprised if he is 43. If so then he certainly aged better than I did at that age!!!

Congratulations to all promoted this season! Pleasantly surprised to see 4 promoted to SG1 - hopefully some refs who are guaranteed their weekly outing will start being phased into specialist var operators and allow others the opportunity to develop!

Pleased for Brammall and Busby - disappointed for Hicks as I thought he was superb on the occasions I saw him ref.

As for the EFL newbies, congratulations to all! Worked with Andrew Kitchen a few times and he is very good. I’ve know Rebecca for a long time and she too is brilliant. And finally Mather - I disagree with the idea he should miss out on promotion because of a poor play off final. The very reason he got that game in the first place is because he was the best all season! Surely he deserves it more despite one poor outing than someone further down the merit table!

Pleased to see 4 going up to the PL - especially Gillett who was comfortably the best in the Championship and produced one of the best refereeing performances I've seen in a long time in the Play Off semi finals.  Brooks and Harrington were similarly quite predictable.  The one which surprised me was Salisbury - clearly he has a lot of talent to make such a quick rise to the top flight.  The last referee to get such a rapid ascent to the Premier League was Chris Kavanagh.

Salisbury not good enough to do a championship semi final, but good enough to be promoted. As already said only did about  14 games, and none of them high profile. Clearly being protected by his management, so they could promote him

With only one known retirement, it was certainly a surprise that four have been promoted.  Having said that with six SG1 referees who will be over 50 by August I'm not sure that they had much choice but to promote more than usual.  With the usual cautious first season appointing to the PL I'm sure that they will be helping out the reduced numbers in the SG2.

Salisbury's one year on the SG2 following promotion from the National Group is certainly the quickest since that select group was introduced in 2016.  Although he was promoted to the NG in 2016 along with Rob Jones.
