I thought I read somewhere (although I have not been able to recall the source at the moment) that SG1 and SG2 received very similar retainer salaries. What makes SG1 referees earn much more was that the fees per game were almost twice as much in the Premier League compared to the Championship.

If that is the case - anyone know for certain? - then there would not be any financial reason for not being able to combine the lists (as you would just have more flexibility in allocating the same match fees). Of course there could still may be a contractual or HR obstacles.

Those at the very top would still earn much more. Someone like edy would know this, but I think our FIFA elite refs earn something in the region of €5,000 per match in the UEFA competitions.

When the SG2 was officially announced the basic salaries were 50% of the SG1. Have no idea if that is still the case. Match fees vary as well per league and role.

FIFA matches vary by competition and round, it's not a set fee per match but rather a sliding scale.

I am a few days late with this but I am delighted to see James Bell promoted to the National List.  I met him at a North West Counties game at New Mills that he was officiating what seems a very short time ago when my son was on the line.  Had James not been promoted from L3 that season he would have had to choose whether to specialise as a referee or an assistant.  This could have been his final middle since he was already an FL assistant.  As a result his parents were there too so it was quite a family affair.  Of course promotion came his way and just weeks later and he bowed out on the line in the League Two Play Off Final at Wembley.  I chatted at length to him after the game and found him to be a really nice chap.  My wife concurred, although given the choice she made in marriage that might not be a great recommendation!

James Adcock has every intention on making a return.

Adcock passed his fitness test earlier today.

There's four EFL Cup games next weekend so guess we should get first batch of appointments early next week. We might get an idea of some officials who are carrying on - or we might not!

I'm surprised it's only 4 games been rescheduled - I would perhaps expect more to follow suit when international squads are announced!

I would think most clubs will treat it largely as a pre-season friendly and if some players are missing due to international call-ups so be it.

I remember the 1st round of the League Cup sometimes used to clash with the international friendly midweek that used to be in August and there was no option of rescheduling your games then.

All the Elite referees gain 4.500 per match. Plus 200 euro for each day. From the QF stage they gain 5.500 euro.

First group officials gain around 2.000-2.500. 2nd group 1.300 euro and 3rd group 1.200 euro.

Cheryl Foster is a fantastic referee. Have watched her a few times & she has been consistently excellent. Really happy for her.

After the Super Cup last August, do we think we will see any female officials refereeing UEFA men's football on a regular basis any time soon or will they concentrate on the women's club matches?

I would certainly expect Cheryl to be given a Men’s fixture at some point. I would also think she’ll be off to a major women’s tournament soon.
