Are there two Matthew Scholes, or has the one formerly based in Bolton relocated?

Congratulations to them all.

Isn't Sunny Gill the son of Jarnail Singh?

Yes I believe he is

Very polite and pleasant young man judging by my limited dealings with him.

Is that the same Rob Whitton who has a FL trial match a few years back, at Aldershot I believe? He always seemed to get decent appointments so was surprised to see him off the list for a while. Glad he seems to be heading back!

Also, pleasing to see names of referees I have worked with over the years getting much deserved promotions. Messers Herczeg and Mulligan are two of the finest I have ever ran the line to!

Indeed it is. That trial match  against Fleetwood had a red card or two but it was generally accepted that he refereed a difficult game reasonably well.

He has been refereeing solidly for the intervening SEVEN years !!!!

One of them. The other son Bhupsy Gill is a Football League Assistant Referee (sorry I don't know the level numbers).

I too thought it odd that TTFL should have missed a chance to say Kettle!

I imagine that this is the same young man (19?) that I saw on the line at Melton Town (very close to his home!) in September 2018,listed as Michael. A little research reveals the birth in 2000 in Slough of Michael Zachary Kennard-Kettle. A further check shows that in the final quarter of 1993, in Plymouth,  Deborah M A Kennard married Trevor M Kettle. I would guess that answers Mackem's question. Two other births with the same surname are listed - one in Shrewsbury in 1998, one in Salisbury in 1996.

Well given that Trevor Kettle was originally located as Berkshire when he joined the league list, I think your research might have been correct.

If I was young Zachary, I might have been tempted to take my mother's name into my refereeing...

Well you've renamed him on his behalf... His name is Michael - Zachary is his middle name! ;)

But it appears that Zac is his chosen name - as with Gordon Brown, Boris Johnson and, more appealingly, Jane Simms it is the middle name that is preferred.

Very much so; I'd much rather have Jane Simms as PM.

Does anyone have information on assistant referee promotions?

And when will we find out about promotions to the National List, Select Group 2, etc.?

Well I would assume they will already have a good idea of how many to promote to each level as they must know how many are moving to the FL to decide how many new 2As they need.

In terms of SG - Lee Probert retired near the start of the season and was never replaced so I would assume maybe Rob Jones to replace him as the only change.

SG2 - Depends if the older refs like Stroud and Woolmer want one more season given how this has been curtailed quite sharply with the Championship/EFL play offs possibly returning but possibly not. Also, will James Adcock want to return again after another injured-ravaged season?

And finally EFL - we know Bobby Madley is returning which I am assuming will still be the arrangement so I guess it depends on how many more they need to complete the list. Not sure it will be too many this year however!
