Promotion 2020

Taking into account the reorganisation st step 5,6 &7 next season, do people think the number of refs promoted to level 3 & 4 will be increased, reduced or same as usual??

I thought reorganisations had been put on hold as the season was not completed (or I may have that wrong)

I believe the football step re-org is on hold, but the refereeing level change will go ahead as planned.

I suspect the FA don't yet know what they are going to do though as there are logistical headaches, to put it mildly.  Normally all L4s and above, whether new or returning, have to pass a fitness test in June or July, and itis obviously looking very unlikely that will be able to happen.  Before those fitness tests all candidates have to visit their GP and have a blood pressure check done and get a card stamped, they are then only allowed to take the test if their reading is below 140/90.  Clearly that approach is also likely going to need to change as the last thing the NHS needs is 2000+ football referees turning up for blood pressure checks.  Until there is indication when step 5 and above football will restart I suspect they won't publish anything, as things stand it would be no more than pure guesswork.

I could do without the stress of producing a blood pressure reading below 140/90 and the effort of hauling myself round a track with a bunch of people many of whom are half my age (some might even be a third of my age this year :o).  Since last season didn't happen can I vote for last season's fitness test results being carried over to next season?  Purely to help the NHS, obviously.  ;)

This was sent our 30th March

The Refereeing structure is separate to the National League System (men’s and women’s) and it
remains the intention for promotions and reclassifications to be implemented across the Refereeing
pyramids. As I am sure you will all know, the footballing environment is very fluid at this moment
with inconsistent season end dates across the variety of competitions, but we hope the synopsis
below helps understand the current position.
We have also reviewed the impact of the revised League structure changes on the restructure of the
refereeing pyramid for season 2020/21. Following discussions, we can also confirm that there
remains significant benefit in continuing with the implementation of the agreed changes (with a few
modifications)
. Consequently, the restructure will be implemented for 2020/21. Details of the
modifications will be communicated separately in due course."

Just a thought - those newly promoted or returning (from injury/sabbatical) to Level 4 or 3, could be asked to complete the fitness test; rather than the full list at Level 4 and Level 3...

There is also the ‘complication’  if the proposed change to this years fitness test From Cooper test to FIFA. How can refs prepare for this test if they can’t get onto tracks or football pitches? Road running is not, IMO, comparable.

This will be my first year on the FIFA test rather than the Cooper.  I've found preparing for it straightforward by simply finding a flat, quiet part of the park that is 100m long.  Split it into roughly 12.5m, 75m and 12.5m and then at the end of each 'sprint' just walk up and back to the end marker, replicating the 25m portion of the test.  Repeat 40 times and Bob's your uncle (aside from a few funny looks by others doing more normal exercise!!)

The FA have today announced that the Level Three fitness for next season will no longer be the interval-based test but will revert to the 2.7k run and 50m sprints due to organisation and preparation for the planned change being impaired by the current crisis.

The tests scheduled for both Levels Three and Four in June and July have been postponed.

I have seen a few tweets from officials and it looks like the promotion to level 3 and 4 emails have been sent out.  Congrats to all those who have been promoted!
