F A cup weekends is a possibility for some games ie Villa v Burnley or Leeds v Villa
As all three sides were eliminated in round 3.

There should be zero need whatsoever to extend the season.

It's only mid-January and the season doesn't finish until 22nd May.

No chance of the season being extended.  Those that have postponed games will just need to play three games a week if necessary.

Leicester's schedule will be hilarious what with Conference League and domestic cup matches to play as well.

Burnley v Watford makes it 20
it will be interesting to see when these 20 fixtures will be fitted into the season as they can’t extend it

At least Burnley don't have UEFA competitions to contend with, but they are going to have to start playing soon.  Their relegation rivals won't be happy as they are going to have a good idea what they are going to need to do to catch them.  They need to schedule the games soon, they can't be going into the final month with games in hand as that would be grossly unfair on the others.

I dont envy Burnley, starting from the bottom rung, the extra pressure on them will be immense especially with such a small squad. Most teams prefer point to games in hand.

Points on the board are usually better, but if Newcastle, Watford and Norwich don't pick up lots of points it will give an advantage to Burnley as they will know that draws in their games in hand will put it back in their control.  Likewise if the others do start to get wins Burnley will know they need to go all out for wins in those games in hand.

Some sceptical views have been expressed about teams getting games called off because of lack of players in order to rush through transfers to get better players in….

My view is that any games called off before the transfer window opened should only have the players involved prior to that window available.
It is unfair that teams like Newcastle could substantially strengthen with their oil money to play games scheduled before Jan 1.

Whilst I understand the desire for something like that, I don't really think it would be viable.

What would you do if a team sell their number 1 goalkeeper in January and bring in a replacement?

Burnley had a lot of games postponed because of their opponents, against Watford, Aston Villa and Everton. They've sold Chris Wood since. If they bring in a replacement now, are you going to say he can't play because he wasn't signed in December?

What about Brighton V Chelsea tonight, which has been brought forward from February because of Club World Cup? If someone scores the winner tonight are they then not allowed to be sold this month? What about players who were originally injured or suspended at the time the fixture was meant to be played?

I just don't think it's possible to try and recreate the conditions a game was meant to be played in when it gets rescheduled and given the number of games postponed due to lack of players then preventing fit and available players from playing in a match probably isn't going to help matters.

You are correct about Burnley because it is only this week that they have had to ask for postponements. They also had their game against Spurs postponed because of snow which was totally out of their control.
The transfer of Chris Wood was not something which the club would have sanctioned as far as I am concerned, however, he invoked his release clause and Newcastle paid up, therefore, Burnley had no choice.
They have been hit with injuries right through the club and things came to a head last week when the Under23 team played on Mondya night and  the average age was 18.6 years. This impacted on the Under 18s who played the following night and had a squad that was averaging just about 17 years of age.
It is what it is, however, I feel that the PL has made a rod for its own back by allowing any postponements and I don't blame any club for taking advantage.
Referee's decision used to be final!

Now they are talking about changing the rules on when games can be postponed. How is that fair on teams in future this season who would have had grounds for a postponement under the current rules not potentially being given one after they change the rules?
