Rob Jones 100%, should have been promoted last year.

Tim Robinson if you had asked me two years ago I would have said absolutely no, but he has been very good whenever I've seen him since, seems to have really kicked on to become a very good SG2 referee.

Darren England, haven't seen enough of him.

Oliver Langford, I think he is some way off SG1 level and this would be a big surprise.

I would promote Jones, England and Robinson and maybe remove/demote Mason. I like Gillett, Donahue, Webb and Bond but maybe the latter is a little old for me.
M Salisbury, Backhouse, Toner, Coggins and maybe Edwards or J Oldham of the newbies, to be promoted to SG2

Might be difficult to remove or demote Lee Mason as he appears to be having quite a good season.

SG1 - Jones, England, Robinson and Bond.
SG2 - Backhouse and M Salisbury. Not sure that Toner would want to be SG2 and I do not know enough about the others mentioned to give a view.

I would expect to see England, Jones and Robinson go up.

Gillett I know nothing about so can't comment.

I am unconvinced Langford has what it takes to be SG1

I rate Bond highly but he doesn't seem to be quite as much in favour as the first three I mention.

As to moving up to SG2. M Salisbury a cert I believe. Is Doughty already there? If not I think he will be.

Based on seeing just one performance ( hardly fair but there we are ) someone who shouldn't be within a country mile of SG2 is Alan Young

The fact Robinson, Jones and England have had trial games makes me think they are strong contenders for promotion to SG1, although that would mean at least two SG1 referees stepping down I presume.

Three of the NL referees have already had Championship trial games this season so if three are promoted to SG1 you'd think those three have a good chance of promotion to SG2 to replace them. I guess any other additions would depend on if any SG2 referees retire.

Doughty is only in his first season on the National List.

Anyone know what the difference in pay is between SG1 and SG2? My thinking is cost wise it should not be too much so why not expand SG1?
I would prefer to see some pushed back to make room but do not know enough about their contracts as to whether a shift from SG1 to SG2 presents a major human resources issue or not.

I seem to remember when it was all announced that it was 50% less. £70k basic for SG1 & £35k basic for SG2 but stand to be corrected. Whether they had the sense or not to change the contracts for SG2, allowing easier legal movement between the 2 groups I have no idea but I'm pretty sure they tied their hands behind their backs with the SG1 contracts.

Parachute payments for those demoted?

...but turning quite a few influential heads in a positive way I understand. However, they certainly won't make an 'Attwell' mistake again I imagine, so he may well have to wait a bit.
