Disgraceful scenes here. Let’s hope they get the main culprits, especially the moron with the bucket.

If you watch on YouTube.   you will see the ref Alex King try to protect the player.
Disgraceful and embarrassing scenes.  In the highly competitive Australian market football always seems to give itself a black eye.  We just took a step forward after the World Cup and now this.

Agreed, disgraceful screens, no one should be attacked like that on a football pitch. Hopefully it may encourage Tom Glover to consider his (re)actions too in future. Not the brightest thing to do, throwing a flare back into the already volatile crowd.

Firstly I hope Mr King & the player are both ok.

Secondly - absolutely disgraceful...

Victoria Police have made 3 arrests including the offender with the bucket. Hopefully, justice will be seen to be done in due course.

punishments could include "financial penalties, loss of competition points and/or playing matches behind closed doors, or on neutral territory".

Sanctions now issued by Football Australia. I make no comment on those as their severity and merit are subjective. However, a point on LOTG, can a match that was officially abandoned restart from the 22nd minute with a score of 1-0? Surely, a game can only restart from a given point if it was suspended?

Without wishing to sidetrack this thread, its title put a mischievous thought in my head.  If a player and a referee are injured in a collision and both require treatment is the player required to leave the field of play before the game restarts?  ;)

Law 7 subsection 5:

5. Abandoned match

An abandoned match is replayed unless the competition rules or organisers determine otherwise.

Thanks, bmb. I assume Football Australia would be deemed the organisers and, as such, have the ability to start the game as described (i.e. from the 22nd minute with a 1-0 score). It would be interesting to see how play is actually restarted. I suppose they will look at the TV footage and see what the situation was at the stoppage, e.g. was the ball dead, i.e. goal kick, throw-in etc. and start from there, or a drop ball if the game was stopped with the ball in play.

Yes. The would  There are a handful of exemptions to leaving the field of play following injury assessment and this isn't one of them ☺️
