Peter Bankes - AFCB vs FFC
« on: Sun 02 Apr 2023 09:26 »
Firstly congratulations to AFCB on a deserved win in the end, which was due to a fantastic solo strike and their half-time change of tactics that FFC were unable to match, coupled with Fulham's failure to put the match to bed in the first half where they were totally dominant.

Now my moans! I thought Bankes started well but then he's missed clear yellow cards for Rothwell (?) and Lerma who have both cleaned out Palhinha from behind in the first half. Similar bog-standard yellow cards were all correctly issued to Fulham players with the exception of Tom Cairney was twice penalised for excellent challenges, the first then led to Bournemouth's second goal and the second time a yellow card was incorrectly awarded for a brilliant tackle.

There is definitely a feeling amongst Fulham fans that we receive yellow cards disproportionately more than they are awarded against us. All I want to see is consistency and Bankes definitely wasn't consistent in his foul detection or issuing of cards yesterday.

Is there a club in the country whose fans believe they receive yellow cards disproportionately less often that the teams they are playing against?  I have yet to come across one!

I very much agree that Lerma was lucky to escape without a yellow card in the first half. It could be argued he'd have ended up with a red as he did finally get booked 2nd half, but he'd probably not have committed the foul he got booked for if he was already on a yellow.

Otherwise Bankes was inconsistent, his foul detection is very random and at times it was difficult to work out what was or wasn't a foul, however he was as equally poor and inconsistent for both teams. Not the best day at the office, it has to be said.
