Andy Woolmer - Sunderland v Preston
« on: Sun 02 Oct 2022 16:10 »
For some unknown reason, my brother and I decided to renew our season tickets for this season, 8 years after giving them up (We decided this before we got promoted, just in case you think we were jumping on the success bandwagon!)

Anyway, yesterday was the visit of Andy Woolmer to the SoL. A steady enough game from him. Controlled well throughout, tried to keep the cards in his pocket when he could arguably have gotten them out earlier and generally got decisions correct. He has a very perculiar running (well, quick shuffling) style and spent large parts of the match 20 yards either side of the halfway. He did, on occasion, push into the final third, but not too often. I do feel as though the curtain will be closing on his career in the not too distant future - especially when the pace of the likes of Clarke and Bennette will be tearing up the Championship!

Woolmer isn’t the tallest of officials but for his age he hasn’t any bulk at all. Probably why he’s carried on for as long as he has.
