Paul Marsden

Could one of the learned contributors to this site please confirm or otherwise whether Mr Marsden has ever been a National List Official, now having been reduced in the ranks to 2A?

He was the appointed Referee for the Altrincham's v Chesterfield fixture I attended this afternoon

Yes, I think it's been the case for a long time that demotion is not enacted after only one season. I think that's fair enough because often it takes time to settle in at a new level. After two seasons though, Observations and Assessments should be able to show whether a person has been over promoted.

I saw him twice in League One and my overall impression was that he didn't have much control over the games he refereed.

Referee Marsden has been back in the Conference for the last 2 seasons, since 2020.

Maybe a case of like certain Championship Teams who are too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League so get relegated.

IMO - Paul to as an ok FL league referee, did the job ok, there are definitely 5-10 far worse than him who still operate at Football League level.

I have watched football at this level since the inception of the Gola League GM Vauxhall Conference and have seen many referees both excellent and perhaps less so.

Without wishing to appear self important, I believe that I can identify the standards required to operate as what is now a 2A.

Sadly Mr Marsden fell a long way short of those standards on Monday IMO (and I suspect the better part of 2000 others)

Perhaps a bad day at the office?

Mr Marsden was 4O in the TRFC v Boreham Wood NL play-off final, so he must have had decent marks that season and he was also promoted to the FL list. It was a bit of a surprise on what I'd read about him that he had done so well. Only saw him in the middle for a couple of Rovers games and he didn't stand out either way.
