Papa Johns Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium

Bolton Wanderers v Plymouth Argyle.
Ben Toner Referee.

Just seen the yellow card for Cosgrove of Plymouth on ref watch and Dermot has described it as as bad a red card tackle as you could wish to see! 🙈

Dreadful decision. Between the 5 officials at the game how none of them saw it as a CLEAR RC amazes me!

I agree it was a red card but referees are often reluctant to dismiss players in showcase matches. I recall Gavin Ward failing to send off Matt Rhead of Lincoln for a very bad foul in this final a few years ago.

As a Plymouth supporter I can confirm pretty much all our supporters on social media believe that should be red and most are quite angry with him as we don’t want to be associated with that sort of play .

Unless you are Neil Hair in what I believe was the NL Promotion Final when he red carded (correctly) very early in game

After 48 seconds to be precise.

I get the cup final bit and being a showpiece final but referees need to apply law. There are many cup finals taking place at the top of League one and the fact Is Plymouth should be without a major player for 3 of their remaining 8 games so have a distinct advantage in the race for promotion.

Could be wrong, but I think the suspension would have to be served in the EFL Trophy, which would mean next season.

Having said that, Plymouth probably won't be in it!
