Pretty easy stuff for Tierney in the dreadful orange outfit…

Appears a red card was brandished to a member of the Soton bench at half time for foul and abusive language.

Any idea where I can find this red card online? Highlights etc ?

According to Sky Sports he is banned for three matches but he will be available for the final - I also thought it only applied to the cup if you was sent off in it - hopefully someone can say for definite

I think that red cards apply across the board and he will be suspended for PL games etc. It is the accumulation of yellow cards which only apply to the competition in which they are given ---I could be wrong but think that this changed in 2019.

I think this is right.

I suppose it wouldn't be especially practical to apply a 3 match suspension for a red card only to the League Cup - there are some teams who get knocked out in the first match they play each season so you could have a player still suspended in 2025 for a red card they picked up in 2022 for instance.

Well done var but can’t help but think it shows the inconsistencies with it after the Liverpool game

Possibly, but most people including the PGMOL seem to have agreed the decision on Sunday was wrong, so all England and his colleagues can do now is focus on getting future SFP decisions correct. And I think one wrong and one right has to be better than two wrong.

My concern since Webb came in has been that the bar might become so high again that VAR would hardly ever intervene for a subjective decision, as happened when it was first introduced to the Premier League. Sunday's incident didn't reassure me about this but I'm glad VAR intervened yesterday and has widely been considered to be correct.

Ironically, the third match of Bruno’s ban is against Liverpool. That game should have also seen Fabinho serving the third game of his ban which he escaped. The effect of one correct red card and one incorrectly not given will be keenly felt in that match.

Yet the same punishment was not meted out to the Newcastle players when lambasting the referee and AR over various decisions.

Why wasn't there a further card for Guimares after having been shown the RC as he obviously said something to Tierney given Tierney's facial stunned reaction?

What colour card comes after red?

You can't just simply wave cards at people... Once you have a red card, you're off and no notecards can be shown. Any post red card misconduct is extraordinary and reported to the relevant authority.

Anything he said can be reported but I dont think you can be shown another card after a red?

Let's hope that it was reported and an additional ban follows.  Having said that; and given the current approach to "managing (=tolerating and tacitly encouraging) such situations, I am not holding my breath for this to happen.

PS:  It should not have needed VAR to point out to an SG1 referee that an act of SFP had taken place some 5-10 yards in front of his unobscructued view.

You can't show another card to a player who has already been sent off.  You would just have to submit an extraordinary incident if there is subsequent misconduct.

I very much doubt it

Bruno's comment to the ref was probably in Portuguese so that's why Tierney looked shocked!

It could well have been in Geordie Portuguese so Tierney would have no chance!
Referee's decision used to be final!

No complaints for the red card correct decision by Darren England on VAR, soon as i saw the first replay i said red card, thought Tierney had a decent game to be fair.

Just re-watched the incident and can't see anything where Bruno said anything untoward after the red card, Bruno had a winge as all players do after being sent off then walked off, Tierney at no point looks shocked.
