Josh Smith - Fulham v Barnsley

Great performance from Smith, unfussy (like Jarred Gillett recently) and let the game flow from the start to the finish. One foul by each team might have been worthy of a yellow card but he was consistent to both teams in deciding a talking to was sufficient.  Not sure if this made for an easy game to manage, or that was the case anyway, but there were few fouls and even fewer histrionics. If this is the shape of things to come, then I believe he can go right to the top and we'll see him in the PL fairly soon.

I thought he was absolutely fantastic. Second time I’ve seen him at The Cottage this season and both times he’s been a 10 out of 10. It’s so refreshing to see a ref who wants to stay out of the limelight and just let the game flow. He was virtually unnoticed from start to finish, and from a refereeing perspective you can’t ask for more than that. A top referee who will be a great addition to the Premier League when he undoubtedly gets there.
I fear it’ll be the sublime to the ridiculous when the attention seeking Stroud struts his stuff on Wednesday evening!

I have seen Josh Smith's progress as he came up through the ranks. A very down to earth guy who I believe has considerable natural refereeing ability. His performances seem to come from inside him rather than be manufactured which is entirely in keeping with his general unflashy demeanour. I wish him very well and hope he maintains his excellent progress.

He was certainly okay in his match at Portman Road this season. This seemingly scant praise puts him comfortably in the upper quartile of refereeing performances there this season, a table lead by quite a margin by Bobby Madley. I do not expect Gavin Ward to threaten that position this evening.
