Nick Walsh Rangers v Celtic

Praise where it is due here. Nick Walsh in his first Old Firm game handled the game incredibly well, the "highlight" being an excellent advantage in the run up to Rangers opening goal. Walsh then correctly dismissed McGregor of Celtic for a second yellow once the goal was scored for the foul where the advantage was played.

First of many big matches for Mr Walsh I think on this showing.

Totally agree, Mr. Walsh rose to the occasion (although the game was not as volatile as it has been). The advantage for the goal followed by the second YC was a superb piece of refereeing.

I would only have two small criticisms. I thought at times his body language was a bit stiff, deliberate and robotic. This can give across an ever so slightly arrogant feeling IMO. He also gave a YC in the second half after playing a very good advantage. The yellow card was for a shirt pull and presumably SPA so I don't think after playing advantage he should have gone back and cautioned.

On the whole though, a very convincing performance in the biggest game of his career. Well done Mr. Walsh.

Just to add to this Nick Walsh has now been appointed to the Scottish Cup Final between Hibernian and St Johnstone.

Very well done to him and the others in the officiating team.

I know very little about Scottish football but see that he is only 30. Does this make him the youngest ever Cup Final referee?
Amazing if so.
Are we possibly looking at a future star in the football world, even a potential World Cup final referee of the future?

I would sincerely hope so! Bobby Madden is 42; John Beaton is 39 and Kevin Clancy 37 so all will miss out on Elite status. I hope Willie Collum can cling onto his Elite status.

I suppose my question is 'How much influence does Hugh Dallas actually have"?

Roberto Rosetti seems to use his influence to push the Italian referees; I'm assuming Marc Batta has championed Turpin and Bastien and bmb highlights Kyros Vassaras' sterling work in Romania. So what is Dallas doing? Referees should be promoted (demoted) based on performance but it does seem to help with someone 'pushing a cause' in the background.  I wonder if Hugh Dallas has been spending his time safeguarding Collum's Elite status but will not need to cut him adrift to support Nick Walsh
