Mr Rob Lewis Sunderland v Southend

After what I posted earlier in the week regarding League One refs being "tested" at games involving my beloved Sunderland AFC I took particular notice of someone who [ with respect] I had never heard of let alone seen in the flesh.
Well I don't think he will be required to referee a World Cup or Champions League Final any time soon, at least he tried to keep the game flowing and used common sense in pulling back play after no advantage had been gained following a foul [ for BOTH sides] and resisting the great temptation in booking Lee Cattermole after his first foul, even though it was committed half way through the second half .
He DID however miss the most blatant penalty for Southend before half-time and with the score at 1-0 to ourselves and quite rightly the Southend manager was furious about it in the press conference afterwards, and the boisterous away support above where I sit come up with a new chant [ to me] when voicing their displeasure"You're just a clown with a whistle" is what they chanted.
Not the best ref I have ever seen, but by a country mile not the worst either.

Seems that Craig Pawson will have to squash up and make room for a little one on his Unconscious Bias training.

Is that the same Rob Lewis who was AR for the Pedro Mendes non goal at Old Trafford in 2005?

Yep. But since then he's been a FL ref for the majority of the time.

One or two of the Southend players hit the deck quicker than a harrier Jump Jet so I was glad to see a referee who didn't seem to have Lee Cattermole's name pre-printed on his card. On the penalty shout I'd have to agree that it certainly looked like the opposition had a good case but I notice Chris Powell failed to mention the penalty we should have had in the last minute when Josh Maja was dragged back. It was so blatant I thought the defender was under the impression that the ref had blown for full time and was attempting to swap shirts.

He's hardly going to mention a possible penalty in the last minute of a 3-0 match in the same light as a possibly match defining one at 1-0.

There is a reason why Clattermole gets booked so often and it appears he had a free pass on Saturday. Southend have a number of faults but diving is not one of them. Anyway harrier jump jets are much quicker getting up than going down.

Why is he going to mention a potential penalty against his team in injury time when they are already 3-0 down?

Cattermole is certainly no angel but he gets judged on reputation rather than what he does at times. Funny you should mention that Harriers are much quicker getting up than going down because that pretty much sums up what a couple of the Southend players were like as soon as they got the decision. Ironically the lad who was fouled when they should have had the penalty was the worst offender so maybe a bit of Karma came into play(or is he a modern day Lazarus) and I did say one or two not the whole team. After seeing them play I'd actually be tempted to put a bob or two on them reaching the play-offs and as far as Chris Powell and his bleating about the penalty decision you are right he wouldn't mention it but maybe the interviewer should have politely pointed it out to him. Match defining? I'm not sure about that one.
