Outstanding, our top official by a mile and has been for a few years now.

As much as I dislike Fernandes because of his constant berating of officials, his feigning injury and his diving (which was pathetic and correctly punished last night) he didn’t delay the restart with his typically petulant action last night so unfortunately no second yellow should have been shown.

His blatant and pathetic attempt to pretend he'd been caught in the face/eyes during that scuffle should have been punished in my opinion.

A new rule would be good here - anyone who goes down pretending to be injured gets booked. Either the physio has to come on or its a yellow card. If the player is down for more than 30 seconds then they either have to be subbed or get a yellow card.

Also, the fifth yellow card that a team gets = a blue/orange/green card which is a temporary removal from the pitch e.g. 5 minutes.

Good luck to referees, having to remember / know if a team have had 4 cautions for this previously in the season.

Much easier to use retrospective video evidence, if they can prove they went down feigning injury (e.g. holding face but contact was elsewhere or nowhere at all) suspend them for 3 games.  Would sort it out in no time at all.  And use the same rule for very obvious simulation, even if the referee cautioned for it at the time.

While we're at it then let's have a retrospective ban for players appealing for fouls, throw ins, corners etc given these are all used to try to con the referee/AR into giving the incorrect deicisipn.d gets booked. Meant for 5 cautions in that match not across the whole season.

I don't think the first one in particular is very practical. What about all the various cases where players need some treatment but are then fit to continue? Would you have sent Scott McTominay off for Man Utd today for instance because he was down for quite a while over what seemed like a potentially bad injury but was eventually able to continue for the last few minutes, having previously been cautioned?
