Billy Sharp & Leigh Doughty - Part II
« on: Sun 12 Mar 2023 22:33 »
Annoyingly, it's not on the YouTube highlights, but Sheffield United's Billy Sharp got away with a clear punch on a Luton player at Bramall Lane yesterday in full view of the referee (It was on the EFL Highlights show on ITV last night, if any clever techie can find it).

Interestingly, it was the same referee (Leigh Doughty) who Sharp criticised after the Sheffield United v Wrexham game recently, for which he was charged by the FA.

I had a very good view of this at the time. I actually thought I was seeing things as no one would throw a right hook at another player (right?)

It’s on Twitter:

Seems like no further action is going to be taken.

For what it’s worth, I thought Doughty did an excellent job in this match and this his only error, although should be really have been appointed to this match considering recent history, I’m not so sure.

Rob Edwards said in his pre match interview yesterday that it’s “another one that hasn’t gone our way.” There have been quite a few incidents that haven’t gone Luton’s game in recent weeks. The tackle from Gary Roberts on Carlton Morris which was adjudged as a yellow only the one that sticks out the most.
