Can anyone explain how Liverpool weren't given a free kick for Lyanco's blatant foul on Jota, which started the build up to the Southampton goal.

Reminds me of the Man United vs Liverpool game a few years back where he ignored a clear foul on origi. No clue what Attwell was watching on VAR, Atkinson clearly pointed at the ball which he didn’t get so it’s surely a clear overturn.

Interesting to hear from Martin Tyler that Atkinson told him he thought he had another season left in him at least, but as the job was available now decided to take it.
Atkinson was well positioned for the so called foul by Lyanco mentioned in previous postings, i would suppose he fed
Through to the var that he was sure no foul was committed, if in fact it was checked which i doubt, as it wasnt in the
Immediate phase of play prior to the goal being scored.
Thought Atkinson had a good game tonight and certainly wasnt caught out fitness wise.

This season reminds me of the 2013-14 season, where Liverpool and Man City tussled for the title, but incorrect refereeing decisions over the course of the season placed Man City top.

I liked Martin Tyler and Jamie Carragher taking a moment at the end to praise Atkinson for his overall refereeing career.

does that include the penalty city should have had at anfield in the final few mins of the 3-2?

City shouldn't have had a penalty in that game, but over the course of the season, incorrect decisions hampered Liverpool a lot more than City, which if they would have gone in Liverpool's favour, Liverpool lift the league, not City.

city should have...?

suspect it has more to do with liverpool bottling it once they'd 'won' it but hey ho

If it weren't for incorrect decisions (including a six-point swinger), Liverpool would have had more points on the board and City would have had less.

one free kick not given and now it's "time to retire". Embarrassing.
