Accrington Stanley v Crewe
« on: Mon 11 Nov 2019 16:07 »
I have never heard or seen anything so laughable in all my life.... One assistant after a toss of a coin for the second half after the referee and his replacement getting injured..

Laughable ? presume you'd have favoured an abandonment and waste of the paying customers time and money.  Well done to all for getting the game concluded.

I take it Acme Thunderer was not there and available to run the line?

Two officials were identified from the crowd but were rejected by one or both clubs, concerned at their impartiality.

Yes laughable and farcical in my opinion... Imagine at Anfield yesterday if both Michael Oliver and Mike Dean both got injured meant that Stuart Burt acted as the referee and Simon Bennett ran the line on his own with no assistant doing the other line...

It’s shambolic and yes the game should have been either played with just the referee or been abandoned.... That’s my opinion

It would seem to be fairer to just have no assistants at all rather than potentially having narrow offsides for one side but not the other.

Or maybe they could have just made the assistant run the full length of the pitch to do both attacking sides!  ;)

Albeit at a much lower level, I was always happier with one competent linesman than none at all. I could adjust my positioning and we'd expect to get more of the offsides right than I would have on my own.

I can see your argument/thinking, however I always go for two or none at all when planning/appointing.
Unless the absent one was a last minute.com withdrawal and the other one has already turned up.

Ha ha, nice one M! Unfortunately I was not there and, no, I wasn't the Alex fan who volunteered to run the line. And I'm not sure either that my current best 100 metres in 1 minute would have qualified me to run the line, even for just 45 mins. I was out all afternoon and at 17.05, I heard on the radio that the score was 1-0 and assumed that this was the final score. Imagine my surprise when I switched on the BBC NW News some 45 minutes later and found they were still playing with the score 2-0. I assumed that it was floodlight failure or similar, and it was only a while later that the real reasons for the delay were confirmed. How I wish I'd been there! For what it is worth, I agree with those who suggest that one AR was better than none.
