I saw most of the first 90 minutes of the Blackburn v Newcastle game on BT last night, and Lee seemed to be moving well in his normal relaxed manner. Not a great deal for him to do but what he did was fine. Mrs AT decided that there were more important things to watch on the News at 10pm (can't think what), so I missed most of extra time which included a third Newcastle goal which Mowbray thought was offside. Lee must have lasted the full 120+ minutes on a a cold evening in Blackburn when Lascells lasted only 1/10 of that time.

Aren't all Southerners arrogant?

I know your heart is in Manchester, but you can't get much further South than Sydney! :)

Canberra, perhaps? Or what about Dunedin?

It was offside, it wasn't given, therefore, no option but to get on with the game ---just like we have done for years. Shame for Blackburn, lucky for Newcastle but that is football ---at the moment!  ;D
Referee's decision used to be final!

I don’t think Mowbray thought it was offside! He knew for certain. In fact the scorer was so far offside earlier in the move that he could have been sat with the crowd behind the goal, and he never regained an onside position. His sheepish glance towards the line was akin to the batsman who quickly turns towards the slips when he knows he’s nicked one. Probert was badly let down in this instance by Halliday in what was a decent performance by him

What Mowbray did find odd was the absence of VAR in the replay when it had been available in the first game and likened it to only being used in the first half of a game.

They used VAR in the League Cup in a Championship ground last month and will be using it in a League 1 ground next week, so why couldn't/didn't they use VAR at Blackburn last night, especially considering the limited number of fixtures being played?

I agree with you about the lack of use of VAR in this replay. However, there is a clip of the incident on BBC Football News which suggests that the decision not to give offside was marginal but not definitely incorrect. Yes, the scorer was ambling back from an offside position but that was when the ball was being contested in midfield, and by the time the shot came in which he followed up on, the scorer was imo level with a defender, and the goal was therefore good. And how often do we see a scorer look at the AR, hoping no doubt that the flag will stay down? If the goal had been disallowed, I'm sure we would have heard from the Newcastle camp by now, and if VAR had been available, I suspect the goal would have stood as not being a clear and obvious error.

We will have to agree to disagree AT. I watched the whole game and several replays on tv and at no time did the scorer become level before the first shot (badly dealt with by the keeper) was made. I know it’s not the best argument but the commentator and all the pundits were unanimous that the goal should have been disallowed
