League 2 Play Off Final - Jarred Gillett
« on: Sat 28 May 2022 18:05 »
Well what can I say about Gillett? Just two words sum up his performance - exemplary and class.

A busy first half, which saw three yellow cards, a sending off and a goal line technology decision saw the Australian referee at his very best.

As I’ve mentioned before, Gillett has a quiet, natural authority and a presence on the field borne out of great experience at a very high level. His decision making is very sound and the players hardly seem to quibble with him, which indicates great respect for his ability.

The yellow cards were nailed on, as was the red for a second yellow. Good teamwork to spot the first offence by Mansfield’s Hawkins who then stupidly flew into a tackle in midfield with little hope of getting the ball. Quick, clear decision by Gillett and one nobody complained about.

In the second half, two Port Vale goals disallowed for offside, and both good decisions by AR Neil Davies. The second half was again straightforwardly and competently refereed and Port Vale ran out easy 3-0 winners. Mansfield can have no complaints with the score, or the referee come to that.

A top first season in the top flight for Jarred Gillett and this performance was the hallmark of why he’s so highly rated. He will kick on next year and get many more top matches. A pleasure to watch him in action.

Absolute CLASS !!! A masterclass in how to refeeee a final, allowed the players to get on with it, but applied the laws when players commited late tackles. 3 yellows 1 red - all correct in law, Mansfield player 2 yellows very quickly again he had no complaints he just walked straight off. At no time was Gillett match control questioned, players accepted his decisions. Excellent ….

Yes, Jarred was excellent, as he usually appears to be, but regarding the correct goal line technology decision, isn't that a decision made by the goal line technology?

I am almost certain that he will become one of our country's top referees and represent England/Australia (not sure who!) at future World Cups. He has a natural ability and sense for the game that you don't often see.

As a Fulham fan, he has been by far the best referee I've seen this season, and we've been lucky to have him a few times. I hope that PGMOL realise his quality and use him regularly in the PL from now on.

I think he’s one of the most naturally gifted referees I’ve ever seen! Definitely ready for more challenging appointments next season, although I hope he still visits the championship from time to time, more specifically the SoL 😁

Without any doubt in my mind I think we are looking at a referee with tremendous class. Fitness, positioning, player management, judgment, calmness, accuracy and consistency ……..the complete package. He will be used next season in the PL than he was this season I am sure.

Haven’t seen it but sounds like Mr Moss should have given a penalty for Huddersfield and VAR didn’t bale him out?

No, he has had a good game, all decisions correct as far as I could see and correctly booking a Huddersfield player for simulation
