L MASON - WBA v Forest
« on: Tue 12 Feb 2019 21:53 »
We continue to mention about the dross in SG2, however the dross from SG1 that comes into the championship doesn’t help matters.

Mason has been dreadful again tonight, how on earth Lolley didn’t get a foul after being hauled over by Barry, and even worse was the dive by Gayle which Mason gave as a penalty. He has most certainly guessed that decision as his positioning was terrible.

Then Lolley again had his shirt pulled in the box by Gibbs which was a nailed on penalty not awarded.

Absolute trash.

You have been subtle, but you can’t fool me , I’m thinking your assessment of mr mason is that he’s been a bit below par ? Go on I’m right ain’t I ? ;)

Not subtle at all... telling it as it is!!!!!

Times reports quote Martin O'Neill, "I have spoken to the referee and he says it was a mistake, it was an honest mistake and I accept that, it certainly looked like a dive. Lolley's was a penalty as well so it's a double disappointment".

And the poor buggers down in the relegation spots have to suffer!! At least he will be out of the limelight this weekend.

Absolute trash.
Gayle has been charged by the FA for 'successful deception of a match official' which will probably lead to a two match ban.  That will be no consolation to Forest who were deprived of two points by Gayle's cheating and of course Mason's failure to spot and deal with it, nor indeed to other clubs seeking promotion at the end of the season who may be disadvantaged by WBA's extra two points gained by the deception.  Perhaps a points deduction might be more appropriate.

Mason gets the chance to upset the other half of Nottingham on saturday in what for them is a big local derby, but he'll go some to match this hapless helpless and utterly hopeless exhibition.

Three big decisions all wrong- some achievement in its own right,

Thought it was a draw but I get the general point. Retrospectively chalking off the goal would be good .......but, I guess, impractical.

It would appear to have been two contentious nights in the Championship:

Tuesday - Lee Mason and Tony Harrington

Last night - Andy Woolmer, Sheffield United v Boro - Tony Pulis claimed that Stearman fouled Fry when heading the winning goal for United. Pulis also pointed out that Andy had only refereed 8 Championship games so far this season and questioned why he was given this crucial match at the top of the Championship.
Geoff Eltringham, Preston v Norwich, Farke called the home side's 24th minute penalty a 'joke' after Buendia was adjudged to have tripped Fisher.

All comments in The Times. I've not seen highlights yet so cannot comment further.

I do have some sympathy with pulis as I think it was a foul and I do agree that Woolmer shouldn’t have been appointed to a game as important as this. As for farke he consistently whinges about refereeing decisions except when they go against his side! Looked like a clear pen for me!

Whilst not a great admirer of Lee Mason, I have to say that his appointment to next Saturday's game had been published prior to Tuesday's match at The Hawthorns; hardly a 'demotion' just PGMOL fulfilling their obligation to provide SG1 officials to undertake matches in the Championship and EFL, as they do each matchday.

Okay, call it a happy coincidence.

Was a push as Preston player entered the box. "Joke" must have referred to his players challenge.

More of an issue for me was how long the ref took to give Norwich's penalty which was a very poor challenge
