Kevin Friend Southampton vs Man Utd

I used to think Friend was a referee who had a good rapport with all the players today I have been really unimpressed with Friend has had very little to do but seems to be refereeing like a robot no man management whatsoever and all YC’s in the first half were poor decisions and only warranted a word

Doesn’t seem to have the same rapport with players that he once had and has been very fussy so far

He seemed to have quite a low tolerance for what was a yellow card but was pretty consistent with it throughout and no major wrong decisions.

There will be better performances but there will be worse ones too.

But why should he have a lower tolerance than others?  It's what they do for a living. They should all be getting together on a very regular basis to ensure interpretation of the Laws is not down to the whim of any particular referee on any particular day.

I can understand why someone would take that view but to some extent I think it's quite refreshing to allow some individuality of refereeing style, which seems to happen less these days.

I thought Mark Halsey and Mike Dean were pretty much the two best referees in 2008/09 - Halsey's yellow card average was about 1 per game whereas Dean's was probably 4 or 5 a game but each were consistent with it and it worked for them.
