Kevin Friend, Palace v Spurs
« on: Sun 27 Jan 2019 18:12 »
Trying not to be biased, I thought Kevin Friend had an excellent game at Selhurst Park this evening. First penalty to Palace was a no-brainer, but the Spurs penalty just before half time was not so easily spotted but correctly awarded. Kevin was spot on with several free kick decisions on the edge of the penalty area, as confirmed by VAR, Lee Mason. VAR seemed to work well and there were no undue holdups. A good evening for South London, and well done Kevin and team. :)

Thought that he had a very good game - both penalty decisions spot on.

I think that is how you want an official to referee with VAR - he was still decisive in his decision making and didn't play it safe by just deferring a big decision to VAR.

He was perhaps a bit lenient with a few Palace players who could/should have been cautioned but generally a good day at the office - I would say Friend is one of the leading contenders to do the cup final this year, perhaps along with Pawson?

Yes I agree that the FA Cup Final will be either Friend or Pawson. I hope for the former, who won't have that many years left in which to land it but suspect the latter because clearly the PGMOL/FA are trying to push Pawson's cause at the moment.
