Simon Hooper Norwich City v Sheff Utd

Not sure if he should have his own thread or it should be on the VAR thread.

He's only had 4 games, but I believe he's the first ref to have a red overturned ! Not sure it was a "clear and obvious", probably an "orange" so should it be down graded?

Missed a clear penalty for Sheffield, but that seems to have been not reviewed as much as the offside which resulted in a goal being disallowed. Hooper seemed to whistle as the ball was going into the goal for the offside rather than playing on.

I suppose he should be having more games in the Premiership because at least you have got VAR to correct his incorrect decisions.

It would be interesting to know if Riley has actually sat in a crowd to see and hear the growing discontent towards how poorly VAR is being communicated to the PAYING public.

The communication aspect probably doesn't primarily come down to Riley. The PL have said they will try to give more informaiton to supporters come the Christmas PL games.

I think downgrading the red to yellow was probably just about right.

You seem to be confusing Mike Riley with someone who might actually care about what the paying public have to put up with.

Presumably he can be found at Old Trafford regularly now that he can be more open about his favourites.

I agree with you Readingfan about the red card. I liked the comment of the pundit on MOTD2 who said that Hooper was right to give the red card based on his viewing of the tackle and the VAR was right to overturn it based on another angle. The offside goal was correctly ruled out although I think a penalty could also have been awarded.

Hooper and Norwich clearly don't fit, think back to Simon's first game on the PL in August 2015 when a Norwich goal was ruled out amidst some controversy.

I'm sorry for the big man but I just don't think he looks the part. On MOTD2 on Sunday, we also saw Oliver and Coote, they looked the part, Hooper didn't and at times he seemed to be struggling to keep up with play which cannot be a good thing on the PL.
