No indeed not. That would be an appalling trivialising of a very tragic occurrence. I am pleased to say that this referee is still very much with us.

That would be Mick Russell then - another referee who went off injured at Portman Road, twice I believe.

It was at a very angry Bloomfield Road.

If the question was which player, I'd have gone for Denis Law.

Spot on m'learned friend. I believe the Blackpool crowd had planned a half time protest against the Oyston family and it duly took place but some of the more madcap elements refused to disperse so on police advice Mick Russell abandoned the match.

Portman Road has seen its fair share of refereeing injuries and you are quite correct in saying Mick Russell was one of those casualties.

Now settling in for a nice evening of FA Cup Football on TV. We'll see how Craig Pawson does. This is a big test for him if he is to establish himself along with Oliver and Taylor; the tie of the round and on live terrestrial TV. Hope he does well.

Way off topic but I thought Craig had a good game.

The list of injuries at Portman Road must of course include 'Topsy', although in his case, it was only after the game that he out found that he had broken a leg in a collision with a player. Did he referee better with a broken leg? I don't know but it must have been either very brave or very stupid of him to continue to the end.

I was at The Valley last weekend for the Charlton vs Accrington Stanley game and he was inept to say the least.

The 2 red cards came after the mass brawl but after speaking to his assistant he managed to send off the wrong players! Incredibly Maxted’s was rescinded but Taylor’s wasn’t! Thank god that thug who stamped on Taylor’s head as he curls on the ground to protect himself has been banned for 5 games because of its severity.

My biggest issue with Busby is what happened when he gave Charlton an injury time penalty which was given by his assistant again I must add! Many Accrington players surrounded and berated his assistant and by the time he got there telling them to go away they still continued, but still he did not show 1 yellow card to any of them!

All the officials surrounded again by Accrington players at full time and still no action... Luckily, The FA charged them for not conducting themselves in an orderly fashion!

This is not a good “low intervention” referee, this is a very weak referee who doesn’t do his job properly! I can’t see him going any further that’s for sure.
