John Brooks . Wigan v Swanses
« on: Tue 02 Oct 2018 21:42 »
First time I have watched Mr Brooks ref. I know he has been rated quite highly. Tonight he strutted around. Made an awful lot of mistakes for fouls against both teams. Got goal kicks and corners wrong. For me he has a very long way to go before he is one of the better SG2’s let alone SG1.

He has been promoted too fast too soon and, unfortunately, could well be the next Stuart Atwell

John Brooks is one of the more personable young officials and not up himself at all. I have watched him referee a coupe of times and don't recall his movement about the pitch as strutting. I wonder how a referee struts? Perhaps he has changed his running style.

His promotion has been quite rapid and the warning of Attwell is always a salutary one. The fact is, the age profile of SG1 is getting quite old and like many European countries England is now trying to isolate the talent early and bring it on. Not dissimilar to Clattenburg and Oliver.

I've only seen Mr Brooks refereeing in his National League days, when he was reasonable, but not outstanding. However, at the time, he also was an AR for Premiership games so did relatively few games in the middle and arguably he ought to have spent another season at that level, getting more experience.

A very fair point
