JEREMY SIMPSON Nottm F v Newcastle

Never rated Mr Simpson in the games I have seen him in at Elland Road. Tonight in the TV game he made too many mistakes including a clear penalty not given for Newcastle in the closing minutes.

The two completely awful decisions that spring to mind was the ridiculous decision to not penalise Dias I think who barged over Barlow sending the keeper with ball in hand over the bye line, and Simpson awards a corner!!

Then, the worst of all was the decision to not award Ayoze Perez a penalty after Steele cleaned him out in stoppage time.

Some real dross served up tonight by Simpson.

Not seen the first one but the second is a definite pen for me.

Yeah I thought he got them both wrong.

That's not the reason we lost though, absolutely horrific performance from Newcastle.   >:(

Never been a fan of Simpson when I’ve seen him on a TV game - utterly terrible decision. It’s as clear a penalty as you’re ever going to see. Who knows what would have happened after that.

Totally unimpressive performance even without the penalty incident.  I haven't seen enough of him to judge whether this is normal for him but, if it is, how on earth did he get as far as he has?

Having seen 'Jeffrey' referee lots of times in recent years, I can only agree with what's been said on this thread.

He doesn't give himself enough thinking time when sending-off players for a start; the red card is out before you can say "Red Card".

He's never convinced me at all, even in low profile Checkatrade Trophy games, never mind full-blooded league encounters.

He should have stuck to teaching PE!

As a totally unbiased Sunderland fan I thought he had a great game :-)
If Black and White is so brilliant why do most of us have colour tellies

Point in question his disgraceful red card shown last Saturday for a perfectly executed tackle when one of the game's serial cheats ran into him after he'd played the ball.

Someone must like him because the clowns at the FA turned down the appeal.

He won the ball then followed through with studs high up Forestieri's shin.  I agree it doesn't look too bad from the TV camera angle, but I was the other side and I said red straight away.  Not great quality but the image below shows how his studs were showing, and you can't tackle like that any more.

That said, I wasn't impressed with the referee and he got a lot wrong, don't think this was one of them though.

Is a sliding tackle now illegal; impossible to do one without showing studs !   Another nail in the coffin.

No, but it is if you then follow through and plant six studs on your opponent's shin.  Would have been an excellent challenge 10 or even 5 years ago, but not allowed now.

He didn't follow through any more than it's physically possible not to and Forestieri ran into him with little chance of getting the ball. I'd prefer to see an honest challenge like that than Forestieri's cheating any day.

If that tackle is worthy of missing 3+ games of football, I despair for what the game is becoming.
