Jared Gillett - Brentford v Bournemouth
« on: Sat 22 May 2021 12:54 »
Has been a tough opening 20 minutes for Jared Gillett. Bournemouth player dives on the ground like he has been shot and correctly no free kick. Should have awarded a yellow to a Bournemouth defender for kicking out at a Brentford player. The correct decision for me for the penalty awarded to Brentford as the Bournemouth player has his hands up in the air, and makes himself bigger.  Correct to book both the goalkeeper and a penalty taker after the penalty is scored.

A crazy start to the afternoon for the official so far.

Jarred Gillett - Play Off

For me a good start by Mr. Gillett in some tough circumstances. The penalty call I think is correct with the current interpretation (maybe not by the updated one that comes in in July) and I feel he dealt very well with the aftermath.

Presents a very calm and controlled image and isn't giving any soft free kicks or cards. Letting it flow as much as he can.

There was a slight skirmish at the first free kick where both players kicked out slightly, letter of the law one could maybe argue for a red card, he chose not to penalise and I think given the context and the fact no violence or brutality was used he was right to turn a blind eye.

Could be a testing game for the next 65 minutes!

And now a correct red card for DOGSO, nailed on call, well done.

The red card spot on as well... Top performance from Gillett so far bar one incident where a Bournemouth defender should have been booked for kicking out after giving a free kick.

And now ! A strong penalty appeal for Brentford, didn't look a foul to me in real time but on replay would have certainly been supportable to award.

If he does as well for the rest of the game, then surely the calls to promote to SG1 will be irresistable

A note of caution. There were similar calls to promote Rob Jones last year which duly happened and look how he has been used by Riley

Really a frantic game. Three more penalty appeals - two Brentford, one Bournemouth all correctly waved away. A lot pf pressure from the Bournemouth players in particular who I feel are really testing Mr. Gillett's patience.

Quite correct to add on 6 minutes considering some of the time wasting antics and the couple of incidents.

Two more penalty appeals in the last five minutes, and the two of them correct. the Brentford manager should be cautioned for his antics on the sideline with his watch. This is a top performance from Gillett in a cauldron.

I have seen maybe a dozen championship games this season and this for me has been the best performance so far. I think he has been superb. Calm, control and correct decisions/

Making an exciting game - hopefully he can keep it up 2nd half because this is going to be a very intense and aggressive second half

Gillett really has avoided cautioning players where at all possible and I credit him for that, but Lerma finally pushed it too far and is rightly cautioned just as the first half comes to and end.

Very impressive so far. I hope he continues in this vein. Could be a little stronger on dissent from players and the benches but I understand his reluctance to issue cautions in such a high tension affair.

All he has to do now, is give Begovic a second yellow in the second half for time wasting !

The officials are the only people in that ground who are keeping calm heads.  I normally like Thomas Frank, but he is really getting on my nerves with his watch antics, and of course the irony is that should Brentford get ahead they will inevitably slow down restarts themselves.

Three penalty appeals in one and Gillett spots a free out. this is some game.. every decision from here to the end is crucial. Hopefully he can keep this up.

He's been very very good so far I think, definitely wouldn't look out of place in Select Group 1. His man-management and calm under pressure is top notch.
