James Linington - Luton v Harrogate
« on: Sun 09 Jan 2022 16:30 »
A chance to get out and take in a live FA Cup tie and a ground I havenít visited in 20 years or more. Nice, pleasant but cold afternoon in Bedfordshire for what turned out to be a decent cup tie.

Luton were worthy winners by 4-0 but Harrogate played their part and deserved something from the match through their attractive approach.

Very easy game for James Linington to officiate and I have been impressed with him in two televised Championship matches earlier in the season. He positions himself well, has a good, straightforward approach to the game and the players respect him. Only the one caution for Henri Lansbury for Luton, and Lansbury does have a reputation for foul play at Championship level. He was wisely substituted late in the game to stop a potentially needless red card.

So a good match this afternoon and very little to comment on for the referee as he had a fairly easy match. I commented before that he is an experienced official at Championship level and wonder whether heíll get a promotion to SG1? A question for another time.
