Graham Salisbury - Lincoln City v Northampton Town
« on: Mon 12 Nov 2018 13:06 »
Quite a decent performance from the officials team overall.  Shame about the 3-2 result, after we came back from two down but we can concentrate on the League and the Checkatrade Trophy now.
However there was something I noticed about Mr Salisbury, that when talking to a player either for sanction or just a chat, he looks down at the floor and then his shoulders start shaking as if laughing. When he looks up it appears that he is indeed laughing or joking with the player.  I though this to be quite a good method of managing the game and getting the players onside but after the fourth or fifth time it started to get particularly irksome, especially when the incident wasn't necessarily something that would promote humour.
Anyone else noticed this mannerism from Mr Salisbury?

We will remember them.”  Laurence Binyon

Long time since I have seen him referee live now but the last time he was Dean Court there was a moment where he & several of the players were in absolute fits of laughter about something, was a good 30 seconds - 1 min before they all stopped laughing long enough to get on with play! From memory it was one of those blooper moments though as opposed to a bit of a random quirk. Can't say it's something I ever noticed.

Nor me. Shades of 'Smiler' Tommy Dawes in days of old, which I often thought was a nervous reaction rather than genuine. Did you get the 'quick walks' from Graham? I recalled it as amusing when he did them at Gresty Road a few years back, but (like you), it became irksome after a while, particularly when it meant he was not up with play.
