Disappointing Reaction
« on: Fri 16 Dec 2022 00:52 »
I am really disappointed by the reaction of so many player who's team has been put out of the competition in the knockout level especially from the quarter finals only. The amount of referee bashing is ridiculous and out of hand. I guess everyone needs a scape goat and the referee is the easiest option. The fact that a strong defense has not been mounted is equally disappointing.

It is certainly easier to blame referees rather than the players who make many mistakes  during a game which no one seems to acknowledge - this ,of course, happens week in week out at most games at all levels

Sadly it reflects society which imho is increasingly lashing out at perceived grievances and injustices and of course social media is an easy way to do it. What you may not say to someone's face you may well express on social media and certainly without the restraint. What you do on social media then becomes the norm in public. No longer inhibited, decency and respect goes out of the window. Wayne Barnes this week admitted that he has considered quitting because of the abuse and international rugby referees more generally are very, very concerned at what is happening.
Is it not the case that FIFA has gone into defence mode because of the controversy about the World Cup and access to Collina et al by the media is non existent? Therefore we can never find out why decisions were given with little or no explanation. I would like to think there will be a transparent assessment of the performance of the referees at the tournament - without the personal criticism of any of the officials of course.
As for this business that a foul in some circumstances is not a foul elsewhere on the pitch with an apparent attempt by FIFA to keep play continuing. It would help reduce the rancour if there was an explanation.
