David Webb - Norwich v Frank Lampard's Derby
« on: Sat 29 Dec 2018 18:51 »
I suppose in this modern day our overpaid, well looked after professional footballers can't play unless it is perfect light. I presume in future any game will not be played if there is a hint of fog.

One floodlight went off, 3 perfectly good and very powerful sets still worked. The referee could quite clearly see both assistants from the middle, in fact he could have stood at one end and still see the other goal. There was absolutely no danger to players, officials or spectators, but because Frank didn't want to play we had to stop.

I'm afraid to say Jack Grealish has a brother, Harry Wilson another player who goes down just because an opposing player is too close and unfortunately another ref who isn't prepared to let the game go on.

Overall, poor but that seems to be the norm and average with this group of referees.

That's the problem on here, you can never make a comment on here when your team has lost.

We had gone 3-2 up with 9 minutes to go.

There is a very good twitter where someone has shown how minimal the darkness was. The lighting was still so much better than what you get at some Division 1 and 2 grounds.

David Webb put himself in a very difficult position and unnecessary position because if the floodlight hadn't been fixed he would probably have had to abandon the game.

Unfortunately you have an experienced referee, I believe putting himself in a position where he was influenced by Frank Lampard who has admitted in interviews he was trying to get the match stopped so he could have time to reorganise.

The reporter on BBC Norfolk said that the officials had agreed the game would continue even if the faulty floodlights had not been fixed.

Apparently the reason for the delay was in part to check the Hawk-Eye goalline technology was working. The safety of spectators was also mentioned as the lights had apparently gone off in one of the stands although it doesn't seem to me that they're much safer with the ball out of play than they are with the ball in play!

Not really, that’s why I stopped posting on here after my own team’s matches, particularly after we lost.
