Cüneyt Çakır, along with other referees, has been removed from the panel of Super League until the end of the season due to a "renovation". He will not get further games in domestic competitions. An absolutely unexpected news, involving one of the best Turkish referees ever.

Not a good situation for him. In fact it looks like career over for him Will be very sad to see it end this way for him.

Could he join the prem?

One of the greatest UEFA referees ever. I will save a post detailing his many achievements and wishing him well as for now I will hold out hope that he gets to have a proper goodbye.

Treated appallingly by UEFA since issues he had in a Slovenia game a few years ago. Humiliated by them at the last EURO being invited to London before being sent home. Throughout all that time he maintained his professionalism and a very high standard when many would have thrown a strop and walked away.

Now he is cast away by his own association. Whatever happens, whether he ever does another game or not, he can hold his head high in the knowledge he was consistently one of the best referees in the world over the past decade.

Could he join the prem?

No.  He might be able to negotiate to come to England & referee but would have to start at League1/2 level at best & work his way up to the PL over the next 2-3 seasons at the earliest.  Bit like Jared Gillett has had to do.

Have read on Law5 that Cakir and the other referees are to be reinstated.

If true and I was Cakir, I think I might be telling them where to go…..

Thanks bmb, edy and Mikael might know if he has any chance of attending the WC after this?

The response from the fans and the coaches - just superb.  Shows how highly he is regarded within the game - outside of the ivory towers! Welcome back Cüneyt. Hope to see him on UEFA/FIFA appointments soon.

I hope he does go to the WC. He deserves it on merit, imo.
