I don't know his age but he was certainly not in the elderly category and just goes to show it can affect anyone.

45 - no real age at all

Resurrecting this thread as it appears we may well be going into another lockdown later on today!

Also in an attempt to keep all of the covid related chats going on in various threads in one place! (and yes I know I am the one responsible for many of the derailing of threads all over the place!!)

Looks like one month lockdown, I can’t imagine any sporting events can continue in the light of this...

A further 'leak' with more details of what the "it's not lockdown - lockdown" is going to include. Sports not mentioned in it

I have a feeling elite sport may well remain unaffected. Further down the pyramid will be a different story however!

I don’t normally comment on political matters but this government has made a right hash in dealing with this pandemic...

Looking forward, given transmission will likely explode as people panic buy now, and only four weeks to bring the R below one, I really don’t see us coming out of lockdown after Dec 2.

We will have two weeks to get it below one effectively.  As another poster stated, I took Australia and specifically Victoria 100 days to virtually obliterate it.

These are not good times. Stay safe everyone.

I just want to take the opportunity to say a thank you to all of the key workers who will be the ones ultimately getting us through this. Police, fire brigade, ambulance staff, military, doctors, nurses, cleaners, shop staff, delivery drivers, poasties, bin men, teachers, background staff in hospitals and schools and probably many I have forgotten.

Stay safe & well everyone.

If anyone is struggling and needs to talk PM me. I'm open as a listening ear.

Lockdown is a really rotten prospect  and I realise that for some it brings very real hazards, health issues and economic worries so I echo the sentiment of keep safe and keep sane everyone. I too will refrain from making my true comments about how the Government have handled this pandemic known on a site like this. Suffice to say " behind the curve" has never seemed a more apposite saying. One of the experts I listen most carefully said yesterday " imagine what you might have to do in a month's time, then do it today and with at least twice the force as you might originally have thought" Seems very sensible to me.

Still, let's look forward to emerging sometime in the not too distant future with health unimpaired and back to some form of normality.

This is going to be very, very different to the previous lockdown that started in Spring and where we had Summer to look ahead to.  I only hope that they can get the R rate down enough by December 2nd so that they can start to unlock, otherwise I fear that there will be a lot of mental health issues, as well as of course a lot of financial hardship.  With schools still open I can see how they will though, as someone described it on social media, having a full lock down with schools still open is akin to having a designated weeing area in a swimming pool ....

I've found this animated descriptor on the spread of the virus in different situations quite instructive.  Produced in Spain but the language is English.

Completely agree Rusty.  I'm in a shielded category. I have no concerns with my MH regarding a lockdown*, I'm antisocial anyway so locking the world out is my idea of heaven! My bigger problem is being locked up as someone shielded yet my son is having to continue travelling for a couple of hours each way between home and his uni because they remain open. They are proven hotspots he will have to be mingling with x000 other students, spending an hour or so on buses and 2 hours on trains and then coming home to me hoping he's not bringin it home with him. Most of his lectures are online so it's not beyond their capability to do the rest of them online as well. Granted practical lab work (important in a BSc) can't be done online but they could rejig the curriculum cover the theoretical stuff now and do the practical stuff at a later date. I'm lucky in that he's a good kid, he wears a mask as soon as he steps out of our front door and keeps it on all day, he's not off partying etc. His uni have social distancing set up in the labs and tutor rooms but it seems very counterproductive. It's a situation that every single parent/grandparent who has kids particularly at secondary school, college or uni is facing. Add in the teachers who are dealing with them day in day out & the workers who catch the same buses and trains as them. My view is it should be all or nothing because half measures will ultimately not work. I'm no expert though!

*That said I am struggling with Mr bmb being stuck in another country to me, I'd be much happier if we were in the same country! He has about a billion slaps coming his way for waving yellow shirts at me via skype mind!

Not anymore you don't. These competitions are now suspended until after 2 December at the earliest.
