Clement Turpin Villarreal vs Man Utd
« on: Wed 26 May 2021 20:53 »
Well there has been no flow to the game at the end of the first half and  Turpin hasnt helped things with talking to players when it is hardly needed and he has hardly anything to do but not impressed by him , he’s missed a few fouls and always seems to be ahead of the Man Utd attacks . He looks as nervous as the players did hope he has a better second half  , Utd have been lethargic and pedestrian FINALLY OGS shows his mean streak with a angry expression and a verbal volley at his players

No complaints with the score so far as Utd have been pathetic and toothless

I've seen worse, yet I've seen better refereeing performances in the finals

As we head into extra time Turpin seems to have overcome his nerves but not having his best game personally I think it has been a easy game to referee but he seems to be struggling and foul detection random

His foul detection seems random at best. Some very obvious fouls not called, mostly for United. Average at best.

The quality of the penalties was far better than the 120 minutes of the match it’s self , Utd got what they deserved their approach from the first whistle was as if it was a meaningless friendly

OGS tactical naivety was on display again his lack of subs and the subs he did make were baffling if a Europa League final doesn’t gee your manager or your team up I don’t know what does

I've said from when he came in, he won't do nothing at UTD.

I'd capitalise on Zidane being sacked from Madrid if I were UTD

I only caught the last 5 mins or so and the penalty shoot out but from what I've heard sounds like a satisfactory display from Turpin without being fantastic.

I really like his style of management, body language, facial expressions and general manner. Very calm, professional and I think really sends the right message. His foul detection is perhaps a tad erratic though and I think he is prone to the odd poor game (e.g. Italy v Poland). Still though he has time on his side (along with his already impressive CV) and I'm sure will have good chances at this EURO for QF or maybe even more.

I agree re OGS. Emery go it spot on, OGS didn't. And, serious question, if De Gea had not saved any of his last 31 penalties (as reported), why wasn't he substituted (6th permitted sub) in the last few minutes of ET?

Agree re Turpin, neither the best nor worst I've seen this season, but he could only referee what he saw, and the fact that I fell asleep at one point speaks volumes about the quality of this game.

A town of 50,000 wins the Europa League, there's hope for Crewe Alex yet!

For me, he had a great game. He didn't let players fool him. Cavani dives to the floor claiming a freekick, waves it away as it had no/minimal contact. Nerves are always gonna play a part

As a disgruntled United fan, I can only suggest that once again OGS showed his naivety when it comes to tactics and substitutions.  United need space to run at opponents with pace and if they are not allowed to do that, then ideas as how to breakdown a defence are invariably lacking.  Look at failing to score against Arsenal and Chelsea among others in the league, and the only response is to slow the game down even more, exacerbating the problem as defences have more time to get organised.

Not much to say about M. Turpin.  OK without being particularly impressive sums it up.  I was struggling to see even after replays where a foul he gave had occurred on a couple of occasions.  Bailly looked a strong candidate for a second YC and IMO OGS waited too long to replace him but I'm afraid that's just typical.

And I have to agree with  AT when it came to penalties, why persist with a GK who must be the easiest in the PL to score against from a spot kick?

I doubt many will remember the 120 minutes that preceded the shoot-out, Clement Turpin included.

I agree about OGS ( as I said early on in this thread )  rashford has struggled for last few weeks and doesn’t seem to be able to dribble past defenders of late , Fernandes went missing , Pogba too lazy and casual in a match of this magnitude

When teams defend deep like last night that is when OGS should be doing what he’s paid to do but instead he shows how clueless and naive he really is as he has done on so many occasions this season

Modern football at it best. Players falling over with just the slightest of contact and then berating the officials for not giving them a decision.
Backward and square passing going absolutely nowhere, in fact, on three occasions United made about 20 passes in a 20 yard area just in their opponents'  half and each of those spells finished up with Villareal having a shot!
Sadly, the players wanted to pass the blame for their lack lustre display on to the officials who did a steady job without letting Bruno and Cavani referee the game as they always want to do.

Is the paint dry yet?
Referee's decision used to be final!

Disappointing game. Felt Turpin did well overall.
But isn't there something deeply ironic - even satisfying - that after all their penalties this season Utd should lose in a penalty shoot out. Couldn't have scripted it better!
And as for the the sight of Fernandes in tears after another night of falling over too easily .........

Not so impressed by Clement Turpin. Satisfactory performance for me. Mediocre foul detection, not so much charisma but good management. His chose a lenient approach from the beginning which worked quite well but I strongly believe that 2 scenes warranted a caution.

The positive thing is that fans/journalists won't talk about his performance.
I know that I know nothing
