Aston Villa vs Birmingham

Quite a game for the 2nd city derby where defences seemed to be more focussed on the sunday lunch they were missing rather than the job at hand. First time I have watched a whole game with Mr Jones in charge and for the most part I was very impressed. He was not swayed into giving cheap fouls, got around the pitch very well, seemed to have a good working relationship with a lot of the players. His tolerance and use of the yellow card was almost perfect.
The only major decision for which I would take issue was the lack of yellow card for a late challenge by Alan Hutton, which would have been his 2nd. I think everyone watching the game expected the 2nd yellow as Jones had cautioned for very similar things earlier. I hope that incident doesnt cost him too much as I enjoyed the rest of the performance

I thought Jones did very well and certainly enough to show that he would be quite capable of stepping up to SG1 and indeed handling some of the more challenging games at that level.  The second city derby between Villa and Blues usually has an atmosphere that demands referees with a cool head and Jones showed that he has that.

Having said that, and I say this as a Villa fan of old, I thought they were a tad lucky with the penalty where perhaps a free kick should have been awarded for a foul on the defender but even the most capable and experienced referees can't escape the odd moment of controversy.
