Thanks Boz, it's good that we seem agreed on Carl's performance, but a bit strange that you thought Crewe deserved to win and I didn't!
I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit to Gresty Road. It was good that over 1600 fans made the journey from Tranmere, normally we only get that amount of away support when Port Vale come visiting. There seemed to be some problems at the Gresty Road end in the away stand when Tranmere equalised, which resulted in Carl holding up the restart, presumably because some away fans had come on to the pitch close to the AR (Matthew Smith?) and there was blue smoke coming from the away stand. It's a great pity if this and other incidents were dealt with in a heavy-handed manner and spoilt what was generally a good afternoon. I'm not sure about the homophobic abuse and which AR it was directed at. The AR on my side looked incredibly old (even older than Steve McNulty - what a player) and if this was Paul Hobday (senior AR on the dugout side?), then Matthew Smith would have been on the Tranmere side. All I can say is that the long-suffering Crewe fans are not normally into abuse of any sort (that is why I attend) and it is often more a case of getting them to shout anything, with the atmosphere akin to the fourth day of a cricket County Championship match which is petering out into a draw!
I was in the away stand at Gresty Road on one occasion when Crewe and the Palace were both in the Championship, and it was not an enjoyable experience, being very noisy and claustrophobic. It is not an experience I would care to repeat!
I hope you return to Gresty Road, - next season in L1 perhaps - and that you enjoy your experience rather more than you did on Saturday.
