VAR again
« on: Sun 28 Nov 2021 17:16 »
Have just watched the Brentford v Everton game and Jon Moss made a var decision for Darren England to review a dangerous kick in the box. After review a penalty was awarded. Accidental but dangerous ok. I can go along with that. Minutes later Rondon had his shirt deliberately almost removed by a defender on a corner kick situation. Outside the area this is a foul and a yellow card. Can someone tell me why the laws are not applied here and no VAR review. Dont anyone tell me that this occurs all the time. I know this.

Mr. England should have spotted the penalty in real time and - having seen it on the screen - I am more perplexed as to why no card followed.  At best it was reckless and it is arguable that a kick in the face constitutes endangering the safety of an opponent.

The second penalty (the one not given) may have been harder to spot on-field, but  was 100% a foul and unsporting behaviour and should have been sanctioned as such.

Poor, on both counts.

Ok,  difficult to see on- field, so shouldn't the VAR give the referee the option to review the incident. Maybe if these so called tussles were highlighted more often they could be eliminated or at least drastically reduced.

Because between the PGMOL, the Media, FIFA, UEFA, AFIB, PL & FA and probably every other league in the universe & the officials themselves have created this "not enough" rule that is both unwritten but widely used in every game.

To cast your mind back to I think the 2018 World Cup, where VARs true capabilities were demonstrated. Shirt pulling, holding etc etc in the box was given as penalties with VAR intervention and everyone was taken aback with how good VAR was. The game could actually be cleaned up and corner kicks equally contested. I note that, any foul/push/pull by an attacker is rightly given as a free kick. We then venture into a dangerous terrority where we are selective choosing to punish one team for a foul but are unwilling to punish the opposition team for committing the exact same foul, because it's in their penalty area.  ::)

Players aren't stupid, they might play the fool, but if you start giving penalties for holding, pushing etc etc in the box then they will learn to stop holding, pushing committing fouls in their penalty area. I'm sure one of the useless governing bodies or something said about wanting to see more goals and that's why the offside rule was changing.

1) We see more goals if more penalties are given.
2) We also see more goals if the Laws of the game are correctly enforced.
