C BREAKSPEAR - Crawley v Swindon
« on: Wed 22 Aug 2018 18:28 »
The card shark was at it again last night it seems. Three straight reds, two injury time equalisers including a 99th minute penalty. Oh and 36 fouls in the game.

The frequency and amount of reds being dished out by Breakspear is extraordinarily high compared to other officials, even Kettle!

And this is why I despair at some postings. You clearly havenít watched any of the footage so come on with an assumption that itís the referee that is responsible.

Watch it http://www.skysports.com/football/crawley-vs-swindon/393686 and then actual judge the incidents!

I don't think TTFL was saying they weren't justified - certainly from the clip, the reds and penalties seemed to be pretty clear cut although we haven't of course seen all of the 36 fouls.

It just seems a bit odd to some of us how some referees seem to consistently have a high card count whilst others do not.

Indeed Iíve not seen the footage hence why Iíve not heralded an opinion on them, I was merely stating facts. However my opinion on how high Breakspearís card count is IS an opinion based on the fact of how many cards are being brandished. How many other officials have this high a card count in recent times?

I have just watched the clip and conclude that each of the red cards shown was thoroughly justified and that Breakspear would have been been in dereliction of his duty in not showing them.

It is quite true that certain referees tend to always head the table in number of cards issued. From years ago a referee called Parker from Preston had a similar distinction. Why this should be is open to speculation. Perhaps certain referees have lower acceptance thresholds of what merits a caution or sending off or perhaps they are particularly mindful of not bottling decisions.

....... of course it's always possible that some incidents resulting in red cards, justifiable in themselves, could have come about as the result of poor refereeing earlier in the match.

I despair at people who post without thinking things through and reply to what they think someone has said rather than what they did say.
