Brendan "Bugsy" Malone

I had the most pleasent afternoon on Saturday sat near Brendan, as he was the Ref Observer for Argyle vs Accrington. I had a long chat beforehand about refeering and his disappointment when he had to retire. He spoke highly of Plymouth and said he always enjoyed refeering at Home Park, despite admitting the crowd are quite hostile when they get going. He explained to myself and others the role of an Observer and showed us how they assess the officials. He was professional throughout and was very good at interacting with the banter, when people groaned about the officials. He admitted afterwards Mr Johnson did well, which was the consensus around me also. He admitted he was looking forward to returning later this season, he hoped.

Top Bloke - Wonderful to have a chat with, and was a pleasure to watch him carry out his duties in a professional but interacting manner. Well done Mr Malone.

Shame the same cannot be said about Argyle's 2nd Half.

Sounds like Bugsy. Life and soul of any dressing room. Always enjoyed his company (and he takes being teased well)

I spoke with Paul Taylor a few years back and he was a very accommodating person who was a pleasure to talk to. He was a frequent visitor to the Goldstone ground in my younger days.

There are officials and ex officials whom are gracious and happy to have a natter.

Love Bugsy! One of the nicest people you will meet in football. The kids in the family stand absolutely loved him and would chant "Bugsy, Bugsy" at him all game! He'd always come over to them before the match, speak with them, ask how school was and stuff like that and the kids would all rush down the front to speak with him.  Never known a ref so popular!! When bmb jr was younger Bugsy was always on hand to give him advice, just have a natter or just be a listening ear. I was gutted when he retired but so pleased he has remained in the game. There's a lot of youngsters who will benefit along the way.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!
