Blackburn v sunderland Craig pawson

Really bailing blackburn out, denied a clear penalty for sunderland leading to blackburn scoring

Here's a replay, ref has a clear view and doesn't give it

Can't blame him for the goal which was a cracker ( albeit the ball ran kindly for Brereton Diaz) but when he sees the penalty incident I hope Craig Pawson realises he's dropped a real clanger.

The attack was a direct result of him missing a clear foul so yes he cab be blamed for it

I was full of praise for Pawson several weeks ago I thought he was better than ever however Saturday and tonight he seems to be struggling and getting things wrong hope he sits down with someone and gets his confidence back

It certainly doesn’t help when Pawson has been subjected to a ridiculous schedule in the last week.

A trip to Azerbaijan on Thursday… return flight… a match on Sunday at OT then an EFL game tonight.

If Oliver keels over Thursday that’s potentially three games in five games.

Sure if it was a fitness thing but he is stood looking at a clear foul, I'd expect anyone in the local care home to see that stevie wonder would have

Agree, Sunderland should have had a penalty immediately before Blackburn goal. Blackburn second goal clearly offside. Bad night for the officials.

With regard to his schedule I'm not sure he'd be jet lagged travelling from Manchester to Blackburn since Sunday but the question should be asked why he was doing the match in the first place.
Another question I would ask is whether this was an example of a top flight official being so used to VAR being there as a back up he didn't make the big call. Just a thought.

Whilst I agree both goals shouldn’t have stood.

I’m not having that they are used to someone else watching in the VAR hub. It’s either a foul or not a foul in their eyes. Pawson went not foul and in the prem he gets bailed out (well depending on what ground you are at  and mood the VAR is in). The offside is harder if you look at it again, there is a red bit in the picture it turns out it was the arm of the Sunderland player which cannot play him on but Scott Ledger wouldn’t have known.  Can’t believe I’ve saying it as a Burnley fan.

I like Pawson I think he was fine in the game. The schedule for him isn’t healthy though especially if you want him to produce top quality officiating everytime he crosses  the white line. As well as the heavy schedule there is between now to the World Cup break. I’m amazed more refs haven’t gone down which is a credit to them for being so fit.

There was no need for SG1 on the game to start with. I get they are contracted for games .

That isn't a foul, he is going down way before there was any contact.

I haven’t seen the game so can’t comment on any decisions but I think the point of fitness is very pertinent. For me, it’s not just about being physically fit but also mentally fit. Surely that’s not easy given the ridiculous schedule he had this week! All the more strange when there are other referees on the list who could easily have handled this match!

Only one thing caused that Sunderland player to go to ground and it wasn't the opponent.

Whilst players continue to act like this there will be marginal decisions made that are wrong - even if that wasn't one of them.

If players want better referees, they need to behave better.

And if we want better referees it would help if people didn't keep defending the indefensible which happens on a regular basis. This was a penalty as was the one which this same official failed to give when Wilson was taken down at Old Trafford on Sunday.
