My BLFG has decided on the need for a diet and more exercise. To this end on Saturday morning I was "invited" for a walk along the front at Ayr, the sweetener being breakfast at the "Remedy" cafe on the seafront at Seafield. Probably the calories consumed in the cafe exceeded those expended on the relatively short walk from Seafield to the Doonfoot bridge and back but never mind.
To get to the point, on the way down we drove past the old Ayr Racecourse and I noticed that what appeared to be the once annual (pre covid) Ayr Youth Football Tournament was taking place and my mind went back to a previous incarnation of RTR when this was a regular get together as RTR members made a pilgrimage to Ayr and volunteered to referee some of the games. My thoughts particularly turned to "Crispy", who was the BMB equivalent in those days but whose death seemed sadly premature. I also recall Flipmode, before he was sentenced to transportation to Australia, (probably for supporting City?) asking for the best way to drive from Manchester to Ayr and of King Marcus discussing which was the best beer (when not talking about "Northern Soul" music). It was also a time when "the thing from Tring" was the "Marmite" referee and when referees did not wear y-----!.
Perhaps others have their memories of these gatherings?
