Aston Villa v Man City - Peter Bankes/Jarred Gillet

Spot on between Bankes & Gillet for the Stones red card. On first viewing I thought yellow, but when you see how high the challenge was then think red was only option.
On a side note, would have been great to hear the conversation that took place between them!

And Gundogan carded for laying hands on Bankes.

Spot on with the red card... Guardiola spitting his dummy out once again is no surprise.

Absolutely well done to Bankes and co who I have been impressed with. Apart from a clear foul by Walker in Ramsey he has been good

Yes a great showing for a ref who will certainly be one of our top refs in years to come

Only issue was the Zinchenko dive on edge of box and your point
All opinions are my own

Find it worrying how many people on Twitter don't think it's a red card...

I felt the RC was on a par with the one given to Leeds' Cooper against City. Stones was trying to kick the ball out and surprised by
Samuels pace. Fair decision in the circumstances.

I didn't think the Zinchenko free-kick incident was a foul or a dive, seemed liked he slipped as he went for the shot. Thought Mr Bankes was fairly patient only issuing Gundogan a YC for his persisting protestations, others might have been less tolerant.

Have to agree on the Stones red card, young Ramsey certainly beat him for pace.
Perhaps a challenge he didnt have to make, and after the goal conceded, it certainly looks like Stones appears to
Lapsing in concentration again.
Couldnt fault Bankes for the yellows issued to Cash.
Thought Taylor did well when Pep went off on one after Stones dismissal, Calm and dealt with it, rather than calling the ref over, Which could have resulted in frayed tempers as in the Dean Smith sending off in the game at the Etihad.

I have been very impressed with Bankes this season , I would like to see him on a big match I certainly think his seasons performances merit it.

I think Attwell and Bankes have been the better performers ( bar Attwell in the Chelsea vs Man Utd )

I was on my way home from my game and heard the FiveLive commentary of the sending-off. Michael Brown was the summariser and poured scorn on the officials for “not understanding the game”. All I can remember of Brown’s mediocre career is an appalling challenge in a League Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Bramall Lane when he deserved red undoubtedly but wasn’t sent off. Colin no doubt complemented him for it.

I later watched the incident on television and it is blatantly a red card. Intent, understanding the game, Colin would have loved it all don’t matter despite Brown’s protestations. Is it any wonder the officials’ job at all levels is so difficult when Application of Law is constantly undermined by co-commentators like Brown, Mills, Murphy et al?

I was waiting for Brown to mention that none of the players or ex-players have ever blown a whistle in their lives so don’t understand refereeing. I’ll come back to you on that when he does.

Brown was a thug, and is an individual on whose opinion I wouldn't hang my coat, let alone any credibility.

I agree but sadly the comments of people like him are heard by a lot of people who will accept it as if it were handed down on tablets of stone. That’s on the BBC as well, heaven knows what the goons on TalkSport are saying.

Ah yes, Michael Brown, who I recall deliberately stamping on Ryan Giggs in a game at Old Trafford for which Andre Marriner (I think it was) only saw fit to produce a yellow card.  I'm sure the card would be a different colour these days even if it required the help of VAR!

Just found this from the Manchester Evening News from 2007:

Amazingly, referee Andre Marriner only booked Brown for the tackle

I guess it was a young Andre then relatively new to the PL, and I'm pretty sure he would deal with it less leniently now.
